Did you know?
Many suicidal people give warning signs.
Warning signs include:
- Talking about suicide
- Seeking out ways to hurt themselves (guns, knives, pills, etc.)
- A preoccupation with death and dying
- No hope for the future
- Hating themselves
- Withdrawing from friends and family
What can I try?
- If someone is in immediate danger, call 9-1-1 or the National Suicide Prevention Line.
- Take the person seriously. Do not ignore threats of self-harm.
- If it is safe for you to do so, stay with the person. Listen to them.
- Be sympathetic and offer hope that things will get better.
